Fans of the EA SPORTS NHL hockey franchise will get their first chance to play the newest installment in the series, the award winning, EA SPORTS NHL® 14, live on a huge theatre screen, three days in advance of the game’s official release date.
Cineplex Entertainment today announced the opening of registration for the first-ever Cineplex EA SPORTS NHL® 14 Premiere Tournament – beginning at 8:00 a.m. at Toronto’s Cineplex Cinemas Yonge-Dundas, on Saturday, September 7, 2013.
“This tournament provides fans of EA SPORTS’ NHL franchise an exclusive first opportunity to play one of the most anticipated video games of 2013,” said Brad LaDouceur, Vice President, Alternative Programming, Cineplex Entertainment. “There’s no better way to play than live on the big screen, with the opportunity to win great prizes.”
As part of the grand prize, the tournament winner will have the opportunity to face-off against one of the players from the Toronto Maple Leafs, for ultimate bragging rights.
The tournament will be played on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and is open to approximately 200 participants. Each tournament participant will receive an opportunity to play on the big screen.
In concert with this event, Cineplex will begin offering the NHL 14 Gamer Combo at concessions stands September 6, 2013. With the purchase of each NHL 14 Gamer Combo, movie-goers will receive a collectable EA SPORTS NHL®14 sports cup, and a Hockey Ultimate Team pack. Tournament details:
· Players must purchase their tickets in advance, and should arrive when doors open at 8:00 a.m. for registration. The tournament will conclude by approximately 2:30 p.m.
· First round – A single elimination tournament taking place in eight auditoriums and featuring five minute matches.
· Second, third and fourth rounds – Also a single elimination tournament featuring five minute matches. The final seven matches take place in Cineplex Cinemas Yonge-Dundas cutting edge UltraAVX auditorium – which features a wall-to-wall screen and superb Dolby digital surround sound.
Prizes for the top finishers include:
· Grand prize – An NHL 14-themed PlayStation 3, a copy of NHL 14, a signed Martin Brodeur jersey and 24 Cineplex Admit One movie passes.
· Second place – A signed LA Kings jersey, a copy of the game, plus 12 Cineplex Admit One movie passes.
· Third place – A copy of NHL14 and two Cineplex Admit One movie passes.
