This week Microsoft Canada let us know that they’ve launched a new streaming movie website based on their Xbox Video service, and they’re calling it XboxVideo.com.  It’s a  service that people have been able to use for years on their Xbox360; and while I can’t confirm this, Microsoft is claiming to have the second biggest catalog (over 300,000 movies and/or TV shows) in the world. To the credit of XboxVideo.com, I searched for Rudy, Major League, Driven, The Replacements and every other film I could think of, and they’re all available on Microsoft’s new toy. New-ish films like Fast & Furious 6, Pacific Rim, and RIPD are also on the service.

With cloud capabilities, you can also take your video collection with you wherever you go. Movies and TV shows purchased on Xbox Video can be streamed on XboxVideo.com, the Xbox One, the Xbox 360, Windows 8 PCs and tablets.

Now while no service is perfect, there are some things you need to know about XboxVideo.com:

A) You’ll need an Xbox Live account. It’s free to set up an Xbox Live account, but you’ll have to take the time to sign up.
|
B) Unlike Netflix, which charges a flat fee of roughly $10 a month, each movie has to be bought for full price or rented for $5. TV shows can only be bought for $3.49 (HD) or $2.49 (SD).
|
C) While I found everything I searched for, the website would constantly suggest random films for no reason that I could understand. I am a big fan of Elisha Cuthbert’s The Girl Next Door, or Kelsey Grammer’s Down Periscope, but why are these the suggestions that came up when I went searching for Moneyball?
