Hey Got Gamers,
Get your jean jackets and Much Dance Mix CDs out because we’re about to do a Rocky Horror Picture Show style time warp… again.
Big Deez Productions, which claims to be based in New Jersey, is an untested videogame development studio that recently started a crowd-funding campaign in order to make a sequel to Shaq Fu called Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn.
For those not familiar with the name Shaq Fu, it has been around since the early 90′s when the team behind the Moto Racer franchise released a 2D fighing game were Shaquille O’Neal is sucked into another dimension to rescue a young boy from an evil mummy. Unfortunately, in the 2 decades that Shaq Fu has been available, it’s been critically panned as one of the worst fight games of all time.
At the time this blog was published, Shaq and the people at Big Deez Productions have convinced 505 people to hand over cash for this remake, but they still have roughly 40 days to convince the public to give them another $400,000 in order to reach their financial goal of $450,000.
While I am sure that the crowd funding cash will help, Shaq and the team at Big Deez will probably make this game regardless of the outcome of their crowd funding campaign. On the crowd funding website the developer admits that, “the purpose of bringing the game to the public is to see how much interest there is in becoming Shaq’s partner and in seeing the game happen. In exchange for your help, Shaq, is offering unprecedented access to his life with incredible perks. ”
I will give Shaq credit. He’ll be making some pretty incredible concessions to people who offer to fund his videogame project. While you can get your face or voice in the game for a reasonable price, some of the more notable sponsorship rewards include:
- A) Signed original size 22 Shaq Attack sneaker.
- B) Playing basketball with Shaq, on his own court, at Shaq’s house.
- C) Having Shaq record your voicemail.
- D) Having lunch or dinner with Shaq.

At this point, not much beyond the game’s art style is known, but the Big Deez production team is describing it as a 3D beat’em up with dynamic destructible environments. They say to image what it would be like to play a game that is basically, “Devil May Cry with a Streets of Rage feel.” With the lack of actual game-play to show off, Big Deez Productions is trying to leverage Shaq’s name and reputation hard. Shaq even appeared in a trailer for the game were he says, “Alright, I admit it. The first Shaq Fu was terrible . Wait until you see the graphics on this one. I’m back.”
For your convenience, here is that trailer that has Shaq’s admitting to the poor quality of the original Shaq Fu game.
Although, and to be honest, until I see game play the only thing I can really bring myself to worry about is what will happen to Shaqfu.com. Their self-proclaimed mission is to find and destroy all copies of the original Shaq Fu and (depending on quality) this may double their workload.
